Introducing A Bold New Breed of Bible Study

Over the course of our lives, we will read many books. The question we must grapple with is this: What book will govern our lives, families and communities?

John Wesley once famously said:

“I am a spirit come from God, and returning to God: just hovering over the great gulf; till, a few moments hence, I am no more seen; I drop into an unchangeable eternity! I want to know one thing—the way to heaven; how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach me the way. For this very end He came from heaven. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”

OneBook logoIt is our humble privilege to invite and inspire you to give yourself to a life-long journey of learning and loving and living into the Word of God. We want you to become a person of one book. To this end, Seedbed is pleased to present OneBook, a new class of Bible Learning Resources designed for the church and aimed at calling forth and equipping ordinary people for the extraordinary mission of cultivating the kingdom of God in the world.

Note the emphasis on “learning.” The Greek word that we translate to mean “disciple” is “mathetes.” The word means “learner.” Because the word “disciple” has come to mean so many things to so many people, we have determined to frame the word in its original conception. Critical to the learning objectives of a disciple of Jesus Christ is clarity of outcomes. The goal cannot be reduced to cultivating biblical expertise. The ultimate question underlying our approach is, “who is Jesus calling his disciples to become?” rather than “What do we want people to know?”

The OneBook Promise

  • Learners will be taught the Bible by trusted and tested teachers who have dedicated their lives to understanding, teaching, and living out its instruction.
  • Learners will be led to develop daily and weekly rhythms of engaging the means of grace through Scripture and prayer, accountable friendships, humble service to others, and partaking of the Lord’s Supper whenever possible.
  • Learners will be challenged to behold Jesus Christ at all times, in all places and at work in all people through all things and to press on toward ever-maturing practical expressions of the holiness of Divine Love in the every day world.
